Welcome to iMeck English I
Here at iMeck we are blended learning, and that means we can express ourselves in a number of mediums. This process looks different in every class and with every teacher, but I promise you, we will end up having fun! English is the basis for everything you will learn, because without a grasp of the English language, students will not be successful in their classes. Though, English class should be fun and we do our best to make lessons interesting and relevant to students now, just as much as they were in the past. We are required to read a number of novels and shorter works throughout the year and writing assignments.
Do you want to make a playlist for a book we are reading? Do you like to draw? Do you like to write stories? Do you like to act? All of these things can be part of your lessons at iMeck. Classes are not traditional, and collaboration and discussion of the works being used are open to everyone and allow for free expression of thoughts and ideas with the text.
Texts for English 1: Anthem by Ayn Rand, Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, and FEED by M.T. Anderson, as well as assorted short stories and mythologies. (Honors Students will also read The Odyssey by Homer, Student chosen play by William Shakespeare and 1984 by George Orwell.)
Expectations are high, but not out of reach. Everyone is able to achieve the goals are set out for them. However, there is a need for work on your part. Being a blended learning school, you are responsible for your work and getting your work in on time and is accurate and well thought out and put together.
We look forward to having you in our school at our school!
